Diploma in Micro Finance
The aspiration of Mt. Kenya University as an institution of higher learning is to inculcate the critical aspects of microfinance at Diploma level to trainees. This Diploma is structured to reflect the changing world of microfinance and provides a firm foundation for the world of work world, necessary academic subjects, and considerations of ethical principles and general studies that should influence decision- making in microfinance environment.
Why Study the Programme
The programme is meant to meet the current need for mangers with broad based training, who are at the same time specialists in a given area of microfinance. This programme has been designed to deepen and broaden the students’ practical knowledge and skills in microfinance in preparation for the labour market, self employment as well as for further studies at related at degree level.
Secondary school leavers who have attained the minimum qualification to start a career in microfinance. The programme is also open to applicants who posses relevant qualification for admission to a certificate/diploma programme
This programme aims to achieve the following objectives:
- To develop an understanding of the general issues and approaches to microfinance
- To enhance self-confidence and the ability to critically evaluate microfinance and develop solutions from moral, professional and the academic perspectives
- To instill a problem solving attitude and business ethics in the practice of microfinance.
- To prepare the candidates for progression to degree levels
A candidate must satisfy any of the following minimum requirements for entry in Certificate programme:
i. Be holders of aggregate grade of C- in KCSE and grade C- in Mathematics and English.
ii. Division III in KCE with credit passes in mathematics and English
iii. Be a holder of any other qualification accepted by the University Senate as equivalent to any of the above
A candidate must satisfy any of the following minimum requirements for entry in Diploma programme:
iv. Be a holder of aggregate grade of C in KCSE and grade C- in Mathematics and English.
v. Be a holder of KACE certificate with a Division III in KCE with credit passes in mathematics and English
vi. Be holder of holder of an accredited certificate with a credit pass that is recognized by the University Senate
Be a holder of any other qualification accepted by the University Senate as equivalent to any of the above
