Kabarnet Centre

Kabarnet CampusKabarnet Campus “Its a tourism hotspot”
KABARNET is in Baringo County, an important area in Kenya's tourism circuit. The county is
home to the famous Bogoria hotsprings, Lake Baringo and the picturesque Kerio Valley.

Thanks to the undulating land,Kabarnet is also a paragliders' paradise. The sport is popular with foreign tourists. The interiors of Baringo, with their jagged, unforgiving roads,
are a favourite playground for motorcross enthusiasts. Besides the tourism economy, the area is also an important resource to the county and country. At the foothills of Kerio Valley are the fluorspar mines. A recent discovery of oil by British company Tullow oil has boosted the prospects. Baringo is also a net producer of honey, which is processed and packaged for both domestic use and export.

MKU Kabarnet Campus envisions establishing an institute of excellence in tourism development training.

Campus History

Distance from Main Campus: 301 kilometres

The Campus was started in January 2013 in Kabarnet Town, Lelbatai Plaza, now MKU Plaza. It was under the wings of MKU Eldoret Campus. The starting of the centre was in response to the many requests by the local population through their leaders to open one in Kabarnet town. There was no institution of higher learning to take care of the education and academic needs of this population.
