Four (4) members of MKU staff have been awarded with up to a maximum of two millions Kenya shillings (Ksh 2,000,000) for their Ph.D research in their respective fields of study by the National Research Fund (NRF) Grant 2017.
This follows a successful training workshop on how to convert “academic proposals” to “fundable proposals” which was conducted by Directorate of Research and Innovations.
In addition, seven (7) members of staff were shortlisted for the “Multidisciplinary Collaborative research category” grant awarded up to a maximum of 20,000,000 per research project.

The participants of the event were MKU members of staff and Postgraduate students (PhD and Masters). The workshop was organized following a grant call by the National Research Fund in the following categories; Postgraduate Research Training, Multidisciplinary Collaborative Research and Infrastructural Support for Research and Training Institutions. During the training, 36 PhD and 5 Master students and 15 MKU staff participated. Following the training, about 20 proposals in the three grant call categories (Postgraduate Research Training, Multidisciplinary Collaborative Research and Infrastructural Support for Research and Training Institutions) were submitted to National Research Fund.
The Directorate of Research, Grants and Endowments conducted a two-day training workshop on Research Ethics at Mount Kenya University Happy Valley Graduation Pavilion on 7th and 8th April, 2016. Members of MKU Ethics Research Committee (ERC), Campus and Schools’ Research Coordinators attended the workshop facilitated by Ms. Caroline Kithinji, Certified IRB Professional (CIP) and KEMRI Ethics Review Committee member and Mrs. Hellen Malechi, a lecturer at Daystar University. During this two-day training workshop, participants were trained on ethics review of research protocol and proposals. The following topics were covered:
Training On Use Of Antiplagiarism Checker Software (turnitin®)
The Directorate of Research, Grants and Endowments conducted a two-day training workshop on Plagiarism Policy at Mount Kenya University, Thika campus on 14th and 15th September, 2016. The aim of the training was to sensitize the academic staff members on the Plagiarism Policy as one of the University research roadmap document.Participants were lecturers across all academic Departments who play the pivotal role of supervising both undergraduate and postgraduate students to conduct research.
