Mount Kenya University wins World Corporate Universities Congress Award

JULY 4, 2014
The Mount Kenya University (MKU) School of Business and Economics has been awarded for excellence in training. The World Corporate Universities Congress (WCUC) held recently in Mumbai, India, said the MKU School of Business is the best in the East African region. The university Vice-Chancellor Prof Stanley Waudo said the award was a timely endorsement, as the School of Business seeks accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. “We recently re-launched the School of Business and Economics and this award is proof of our commitment to provide the best quality education,” he said. Prof Edwin Odhuno, Dean, School of Business and Economics attributed the success to commitment to “addressing three areas of concern in management training and education in Kenya and the region.” These are:

  1. Impact of business schools on organisations and society
  2. Relationship between business school education and research with regard to higher value management practices.
  3. Extent and quality of management education influence on the global competitiveness of a country?

Prof Odhuno, who represented MKU in the Mumbai event said that subsequently, the vision of the MKU School of Business and Economics is to be a model business school offering high quality management education and research for social and economic development. The WCUC was attended by Vice Chancellors and Deans of various universities from around the world. The theme of the congress was “Turn your university into an efficient learning.”
Professor Govind Hariharan of Kennesaw State University in Atlanta, US, delivered the keynote address. Prof. Hariharan is also the Executive Director of the India China America Institute. The Congress brought together various global consortia including Global Knowledge Management, World Private Universities and Kiit University School of Management.
