The National Water Summit, whose main sponsors are Mount Kenya University (MKU) and the Institute of Capacity Building will be held between October 9-10 this year.
The Summit, which will assemble key players to deliberate on sustainable groundwater management in Kenya, will be hosted in Turkana County. MKU has a Campus in Lodwar, within the County. The Summit changed its name from “Turkana Water Summit” to “National Water Summit” to reflect the national scope of the deliberations, partners and intended outcomes.
“This is a first step towards establishing a Water Institute at MKU,” says Dr Vincent Gaitho, the Vice Chair of the University council and chair of the Summit organizing committee. “We hope to make policy recommendations that will guide sustainable use of this vital resource.”
Other partners of the National Water Summit are Ministry for Environment, Water, and Natural Resources, County Government of Turkana UNESCO and Nation Media Group.
