Alumni named most promising entrepreneur
David Macharia, a Bachelor of Commerce graduate from Mount Kenya University has been named the most promising young entrepreneur in Kenya. The continental-wide Top 35-under 35 CEO Awards also ranked him third in Africa. The awards recognise 35 young entrepreneurs under the age of 35 who are making change through entrepreneurial endeavours in Africa. Macharia is the founder of the East Africa Institute of Certified Studies. In the past, Macharia has been picked by the Ministry of Information to host the Nairobi Digital ‘Pasha Centre’.
The judges of the Top 35-under 35 CEO Awards were keen on entrepreneurs with focus on impact, risk-ability, perseverance, unwavering passion, creativity, leadership skills, innovation and ability to come up with new ideas to solve Africa’s problems. “I am proud to be associated with Mount Kenya University,” he says. Position one in the competition went to a Malawian, while an Egyptian was the runners up.
