MKU Receives the Best ICT Awards

Mount Kenya University, Vice Chancellor Prof Stanley Waudo{right} receives the awards of overall winner of ICT Value Awards (ICTVA) 2013 from the National Assembly Majority Leader Hon Aden Duale, during the ICT Association of Kenya (ICTA) awards Gala at Intercontinental Hotel Nairobi.

Mount Kenya University Wednesday edged out its counterparts to emerge overall winner of the best institution that has embraced use of ICT in learning in a survey done by Information Communication Technology Association of Kenya.

The University bagged awards in different categories specifically in;

  •  Best Use of   ICT in Education excellence cementing the institute’s grip in technology innovations.
  • Best institution in the use of Information and Communication   Technology (ICT) in Education
  • ICT manager of the year (Mworia Joseph) and
  • Best innovation award (Elijah Kupata).

 ‘’We are glad for recognition .This is a significant win yet collective participation of every member at Mount Kenya University,’’ said Prof. Stanley Waudo, the University Vice-chancellor after the win that took place at a city hotel.
Information  Communication  Technology  Association  of Kenya  which awards  the  tech achievers  in the country said in a statement   that  the  move is  intended to encourage the exploitation  of technology and address challenges  than can be solved  through  commercialization  of information based  expertise.

Last year, Mount Kenya University dominated a survey on ICT compliance in East Africa that was conducted by CPS International, a social and Market Research Company. The institution emerged top 10 in the region and dominated the list of the top 100 higher institutions of learning in East Africa.

Participants were supposed to provide evidence on how they have used ICTs and the impact it has had in the circles of use.
The awards seek to recognize and celebrate excellence in ICT during Kenya at 50.
