MKU dons participates in International workshop on Social sciences in Africa

As part of the Erasmus+ project 2022-1-SK01-KA171-HED-000069533, Mount Kenya University dons participated in the international workshop that was held at the University of St. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava on 22nd May, 2024. The topic of the workshop was Social Sciences in Africa – ethical aspects of research on specific cases.

MKU representatives were; Prof. Peter Wanderi, Dr. Serah Kimaru , Dr. Judy Mwangi , Mr. Bonface Joel Malala and Mr. John Ngotho Kinyua. Others who participated in the workshop were Dr. Stephano Lazaro Ayo and  Geofrey Emmanuel Ntobi from Dar es Salaam University College of Education, University of Dar es Salaam (DUCE). They were joined by Pavel Miškařík , PhD., A member of the Department of Ethnology and Non-European Studies Mgr. and who was the main organizer of the workshop.

University of St. Cyril and Methodius students Department of Ethnology and Non-European Studies participated in the workshop, together with a visiting student from Charles University in Prague. They learned about the ethical problems that the main presenter at the event experienced and solved during their research and work. Through discussion and practical examples, students were advised how to approach ethical issues in their own research.

In addition to the opportunity to solve specific research questions, students were able to learn how scientists from different cultural backgrounds solve specific research questions, as well as to establish relations with scientific and research workers from non-European institutions, with whom our university cooperates intensively.
