Mount Kenya University and Nagaoka University of Technology (NUT) of Japan have had so far, a good relationship under their joint UNAI SDGs 9 and 10 Hubs platforms. Following this join collaboration on  21st March 2024 the University hosted Prof. Takahashi Kohske Vice President (NUT), Dr. Mami Katsumi – Chief Education Administrator (NUT) ,Dr. Yumi Yamane Director Research Station Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), Monica Dongre -Program Director CDS International, Mr. George Njoroge – KNATCOM – UNESCO Representative.

The NUT team join UNESCO, Mullys Children’s family, Communis, Capemedia,  attended a workshop conducted at Mount Kenya University Senate boardroom which was was guided by the Theme: Use of Innovation, Technology and Infrastructural Development in Climate Change Mitigation for Reduced Inequality.

The NUT team delivered an address on SDGs and UNAI SDG9 Hub  (on Innovation, Technology, Industry and Infrastructure) sharing their experiences and passing great words of inspiration. MKU as thUNAI SDG10 hub (on Reduced Inequalities) as well as key SDGs stakeholders in the community also shared our varied experiences and possible strategies towards the global achievement of the SDGs.

During the workshop, participating members market two International Days as guided by United Nations that is International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and International Day of Forests.by participating in this days students get out of classroom education.

To mark the international days of trees the team planted memorial tree at Thika Main campus and proceeded to Mullys Children Family Yatta farm where they mass planted trees and were taken through training on the sustainable biointensive tree planting method implemented by MCF where they have over 30 acres of tree garden

The Nagaoka University of Technology is the UNAI Hub for SDG 9 on Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure while Mount Kenya University is the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities Hub.

Mount Kenya University continuous to offer quality academic training , research and exposing the students to projects impacting the community through Corporate Social Responsibility and outreach programs. This projects are forming a networking platforms where students can get mentors and research collaborators.
