Students from Mombasa Campus, demonstrated outstanding creativity and technological expertise during the recent Pwani Innovation Week, where they showcased groundbreaking innovations addressing real-world challenges through Artificial Intelligence and design automation. Their participation reflects MKU’s continued commitment to nurturing research, innovation, and practical technological solutions among its students.
Advancing AI-Powered Public Opinion Analysis
One of the highlighted projects was AuraScan – Sentiment Trend Analyzer, developed by student innovator Amna Shabbir Chaudhry. The web-based system is designed to analyze public opinion across multiple online platforms by collecting textual data from sources such as Reddit, YouTube, and online news platforms.

AuraScan applies advanced sentiment analysis techniques to classify opinions as positive, negative, or neutral. The system then presents the results through interactive and easy-to-understand visual graphs, allowing users to quickly interpret public perception surrounding specific topics, products, or brands. The project demonstrates strong expertise in data analytics, natural language processing, and user-centered visualization, showcasing the growing role of AI in strategic decision-making and digital communication analysis.
Bridging 2D Concepts with 3D Production
Another standout innovation was Picha Print AI, presented by student innovator Gabriel Mwaingo. The solution focuses on transforming traditional 2D sketches, photos, and conceptual drawings into editable 3D design files, including 3D-printable STL formats.

Picha Print AI supports the creation of textured and colored 3D models, engineering-grade components with precise measurements, and architectural models derived from 2D drawings. The innovation provides a practical solution for engineers, designers, architects, and manufacturers by simplifying design automation and enhancing rapid prototyping processes. The project highlights the expanding influence of AI in manufacturing, product design, and engineering workflows.
Promoting Innovation and Competitiveness
Both students were selected to advance to the next stage of competition alongside other innovators from institutions across the Pwani region. Their selection underscores MKU Mombasa Campus’ growing reputation as a hub for innovation, research excellence, and technology-driven learning.
The students’ achievements reflect the university’s dedication to empowering learners with skills that align with emerging global technological trends, while also contributing solutions that support industrial development and digital transformation.
Pwani Innovation Week continues to serve as an important platform that connects young innovators, researchers, and industry stakeholders, fostering collaboration and inspiring students to transform creative ideas into impactful solutions.
