MKU Nairobi Campus School of Business and Economics has successfully concluded a two-day Digital Marketing Masterclass for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).The two days training was held on 18th and 19th Feb. 2026 at Directorate of Postgraduate Studies seminar theaters.

The training was led by Dr. Mercyline Kamande, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs), alongside Dr. Maria Mungara. Dr. Charles KAruga and Dr. Lucy Kibe who are faculty members from the School of Business and economics. The program attracted a high number of business owners eager to strengthen their digital presence and increase online sales.

Dr. Maria emphasized the transformative power of digital marketing in business growth. Drawing from a test case of the first cohort trained in 2024, she noted that participating business owners reported increased online sales and a rise in physical customer visits after implementing the digital marketing skills acquired during the training.

The success of the inaugural cohort informed the second training conducted in 2025, which continued to build capacity among MSMEs by equipping them with practical digital marketing strategies to enhance visibility, customer engagement, and revenue growth.

Why Digital Marketing Matters for MSMEs in Kenya

Interest in digital marketing continues to grow due to increased online sales on platforms such as TikTok and Instagram. With rising internet penetration and smartphone usage in Kenya, digital platforms are becoming essential tools for business growth.

Dr. Kamande emphasized the importance of content-driven strategies: “The foundation of digital marketing is content marketing, which includes posts, articles, podcasts, videos, audio, and infographics. With the growth of internet access in Kenya and the increasing number of smartphone users, entrepreneurs should leverage digital marketing to promote their businesses and boost sales.”

This marks the third successful MSME training conducted by the School. Faculty members engaged directly with practicing entrepreneurs, creating a valuable knowledge-sharing platform.
