Getting through a PhD programme – the pinnacle of academic achievement – can be challenging, especially for learners constrained for time. For others, though, the journey can be a breeze, characterised by the few years they spend before completing their studies. All PhD programmes at MKU last three years.
Some of the students who have completed this journey have differing experiences and aspirations. Here, in their own words, they summarise how it panned out for them:
Dr. Gakahu Keziah Kabura: “My doctoral journey has beena transformative experience marked by academic rigour, deep inquiry, and personal growth. My research adds to the body of knowledge in diversification strategies, and I hope it inspires continued study on how diversification through innovation can accelerate ICT sector growth.”
Dr. Adam Shisia: “My Journey at MKU from MBA to PhD is a story of growth, determination, and
gratitude. It was rigorous and transformative, marked by demanding research processes, intensive supervision, and high academic standards. My research contributes to strengthening financial risk management knowledge in Kenyan banking. Looking ahead, I aim to expand my scholarly work, mentor upcoming researchers, and advance impactful academic engagement.”
Dr. Emanikor Edonga Lazarus: “I thank God for His grace through my doctoral journey. I aim to keep contributing to knowledge and society. To my fellow scholars, stay focused and never give up. If I made it, you too can.”
Dr. Mwangi Marubu John: “The PhD journey might have been long and challenging, but chasing of the dreams made it possible. I have achieved my academic aspirations. The skills acquired will shape my future scholarly undertakings and assist in mentoring other students. To ongoing doctoral candidates, achieving academic success may seem difficult, but let your relentless pursuit of studies lead you towards a future of limitless possibilities.”
Dr. Joseph Peter Maingi Mullingah: “Completing my PhD in Counselling Psychology at MKU has been a deeply rewarding and transformative journey. As I celebrate this achievement, I honour MKU as a cornerstone of my professional transformation and look forward to applying my knowledge to inspire meaningful change.”
Dr. Nehemiah Wabuyabo Otipah: “The quest for a PhD in Literature in English at MKU has been a tremendous journey. I purpose to leverage this knowledge to do research, publish quality papers and mentor future literary scholars. I urge continuing doctoral students to stay true to their course in the knowledge that MKU has an excellent academic panel that will give them precise guidance, necessary to thrive. However, individual gritis key.”
Dr. Komakech Samuel: “There is absolute fulfilment in obtaining Doctor of Philosophy. It has been an eventful academic journey. I plan to be a lecturer, as I feel the calling to teach. ‘The mind is the standard of a man’. As such, I encourage all the doctoral students not to give up, though it may seem impossible until it is done.”
