MKU Foundation turns dreams into a reality
Mount Kenya University is proud to announce that Truphena Muthoni, a passionate Kenyan environmentalist, has been awarded a Full Scholarship Educational Support to pursue her studies at MKU starting January 2026.
Truphena is an Environmentalist & Climate Advocate who raises awareness on climate change, tree planting, forest conservation, and community engagement for sustainable environmental practices. In recognition of her dedication to environmental conservation and her advocacy for the United Nations 17 SDGs, Mount Kenya University, through the MKU Foundation, awarded her a full scholarship to study Environmental Studies or related fields. This scholarship will empower her to continue inspiring youth to take active roles in protecting our planet.

This recognition comes after Truphena’s extraordinary act of environmental advocacy—embracing a tree continuously for 72 hours—a symbolic gesture that highlights her unwavering commitment to climate change mitigation. Her initiative aligns closely with President William Ruto’s national campaign to plant 15 billion trees by 2032, a cornerstone of Kenya’s climate resilience strategy.
In line with MKU’s mission, “To provide world-class education, research, and innovation for global transformation and sustainable development,” the scholarship supports young people who go above and beyond in their endeavors. Truphena embodies this spirit of dedication, innovation, and leadership.

The scholarship will enable her to further her environmental advocacy through education, research, and practical impact.
Mount Kenya University congratulates Truphena Muthoni and wishes her every success as she embarks on this exciting academic journey.
