Two student teams from Mount Kenya University (MKU) – Nairobi Campus proudly represented the University at the CFA Institute Research Challenge Local Finals on 13th February 2026, organized under the CFA Society East Africa. This prestigious competition bridges classroom learning with practical investment analysis, requiring students to conduct equity research, prepare professional investment reports, and present their findings to panels of finance industry experts.

Multidisciplinary Teams Deliver Excellence

MKU Nairobi Campus fielded two multidisciplinary teams with students from finance, accounting, economics, marketing, and business management. Over several months, the students engaged in rigorous research, financial modeling, report writing, and presentation practice under the guidance of faculty advisors and an industry mentor.

This preparation strengthened critical skills such as analytical thinking, teamwork, time management, and resilience, reflecting the professional standards expected in the global investment and finance sector. Both teams showcased remarkable professionalism and the ability to apply classroom knowledge to real-world equity analysis.

Team A Shines

Team A delivered an outstanding performance, demonstrating deep analytical insight and excellent presentation skills, finishing just outside the top three as near-finalists.

Ms. Esther Awak Kuot earned Best Female Presenter, highlighting her technical knowledge, confidence, and ability to communicate complex financial concepts clearly during both the presentation and Q&A sessions.

Bridging Theory and Practice

Participation in the CFA Research Challenge offered invaluable experiential learning. Students gained practical experience in:

  • Financial modeling and investment evaluation
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving
  • Professional presentations and communication
  • Collaboration and project management

This experience equips MKU students with the skills required to excel in the global finance industry and demonstrates the University’s commitment to developing professionally competent and globally competitive graduates.
