Mount Kenya University has reaffirmed its commitment to community service through a meaningful donation of mattresses to the Thika Children’s Rescue Centre. The initiative was carried out under the University’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.

The Thika Children’s Rescue Centre, located in Kiambu County, plays a vital role in rescuing and rehabilitating vulnerable children, particularly those living on the streets or at risk. The donation comes at a crucial time, following a destructive dormitory fire in February 2026 that left parts of the facility in need of urgent rehabilitation.

Through this support, Mount Kenya University aims to enhance the centre’s capacity to provide a safe and comfortable environment for the children. The donated mattresses will help restore dignity and improve living conditions for the young beneficiaries as the institution continues its rebuilding efforts.

The rescue centre serves as a safe haven, offering essential services including food, shelter, clothing, and psychosocial support. Its mission is to rehabilitate and reintegrate children back into their families and the education system, giving them a renewed chance at life.

The facility supports a wide range of disadvantaged children, including abandoned infants, abused teenage girls, and vulnerable boys. By stepping in during this period of recovery, Mount Kenya University has demonstrated its unwavering dedication to uplifting communities and supporting those most in need.

This initiative underscores the University’s broader mission of not only providing quality education but also actively contributing to societal transformation through impactful community outreach programmes.
