MKU School of Nursing joined by students from the college of health sciences successfully conducted a free medical camp at Gatitu Catholic Church, reaffirming the University’s unwavering commitment to strengthening community partnerships through impactful Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

Held under the theme “Healthy Community, Happy Future,” the outreach brought together faculty, students, healthcare professionals, and key partners in a collaborative effort aimed at enhancing access to essential healthcare services for the local community. The initiative reflects MKU’s mission of integrating academic excellence with community service, while providing students with practical, hands-on experience in real-world healthcare delivery.

The medical camp was officially led by the Dean, School of Nursing, Dr. George Njoroge, and was graced by senior officials from the Kiambu County Health Department, including the Director of Nursing Services, Monica Kang’ethe, and the Deputy Director of Nursing Services, Bernard Mwega. Their presence underscored the importance of partnerships between academic institutions and county health systems in improving healthcare access and outcomes.

During the outreach, residents benefited from a wide range of free medical services, including general health check-ups, eye screening, maternal and child health consultations, health education, and preventive care services. The camp also provided an opportunity to raise awareness on key health issues, empowering community members with knowledge to make informed health decisions. Almost 900 patients received medication, free health check up and health information.

The success of the medical camp was made possible through the support and collaboration of valued partners, including Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital, Kenya Red Cross, Lions SightFirst Eye Hospital, St. Camillus Ndungu Health Centre, AAR Healthcare, Aga Khan University Hospital, St. Clare’s High School Gatitu, Nderi Uzima Health Unit, Optica, Marie Stopes, and Regal Pharmaceuticals. Each partner played a critical role in delivering specialized services and ensuring the outreach achieved its objectives.
