It is with humility that I (Dr. Karim A. A Khan) accept the honour bestowed upon me by Mount Kenya University and for the award of Honorary Doctor of Laws (Honoris Causa). This award makes me, a Bona fide Alumnus of this great University.

Thank you!

Mr. Chancellor Sir, this award is greatly appreciated by my family (here represented), my friends and associates here in Kenya and elsewhere.

As I join the MKU graduating Class of 2023, I find myself excited by the opportunities the degrees we are receiving today will catapult our zeal to Unlock Infinite Possibilities the world has for each one of us.

To the University Board of Directors, Council, Management, Parents and Guardians; thank you for supporting the education journey of this graduating class. Your contributions are indeed invaluable.

Prof. John Struthers, MKU Chancellor awarding Dr. Karim Khan, ICC Prosecutor Honorary Doctor of Laws (Honoris Causa)

Mr. Chancellor Sir, allow me to reiterate the value of education in the growth and development of humanity. I, therefore, encourage all of us to invest tirelessly towards making education accessible and affordable. This will enable us to achieve an equitable society as envisioned by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal No. 10 on Reducing Inequalities of which MKU is the current United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) Hub.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is a call to each one of us to stand in the gap for a peaceful and stable society upon which education thrives best.

As a global civil servant at the International Criminal Court at the Hague, I am called upon to seek legal justice for the world citizenry affected by breakdown in law and order perpetuated upon them by others. At every level, the world needs to call itself to seek committed and competent individuals if we are to surmount our contemporary livelihoods and existence conditions.

Ladies and gentlemen, our times represent some uniqueness under the banner of climate change which is indiscriminative regardless of spatial diversities we live in.

Mr. Chancellor Sir, the theme of this graduation ceremony (Embracing Law, Science and Technology for Achievement of Climate Change Interventions) resonates very well with the time we are living in. Any compromise on the ability of environment to sustain human existence will ultimately bear unfathomable consequences to the peace and stability the world is enjoying today.

Dear Graduating Class of 2023, as you join the world of work, become the solution. Utilize the knowledge and skills you have acquired to change the tide of Climate Change. Seek and adopt science and technology to enhance sustainability and adherence to laws that cements harmony in diversity.

As an Alumnus of MKU, I will be available to support the development and growth of my school (MKU Parklands School of Law) so as to enhance sustained competencies in training law. Whenever possible, I will participate in any non-conflicting engagements while offering material and ideological support when called upon.

Further, as a friend of this great country, I will continue to engage in social ventures, especially in education such as those supported by family.

Mr. Chancellor Sir, Ladies and Gentlemen allow me to once again extend my sincere appreciation for this award and thank all of you, here present and all those following this event virtually for your audience and attention.

Thank you very much.

Dr. Karim A. A Khan, K.C
