Through its Centre for Professional Development, the University recently hosted an inspiring mentorship session for students undertaking German language studies, highlighting the transformative opportunities available through German language proficiency.
The event was graced by Dr. Josephine Nyambura and facilitated by Mrs. Maria Krieger from Germany, who shared valuable insights into German language, culture, and the numerous opportunities available to students pursuing international careers. The interactive session brought together learners enrolled in MKU’s German language programme and provided mentorship on academic progression, cultural integration, and career prospects in Europe.

Students were encouraged to remain committed to their language-learning journey, with speakers emphasizing that every new language learned increases one’s competitiveness in the global job market. As part of its internationalization agenda, Mount Kenya University has partnered with Hochschule Koblenz University of Applied Sciences in Germany to offer a Preparatory Certificate Course that addresses the increasing demand for qualified healthcare professionals in Germany. After successfully completing the German language programme, students can enroll in the Healthcare Apprenticeship Programme, which prepares them for work-study opportunities in Germany.
Beyond Germany, MKU also facilitates employability opportunities for German-speaking nursing graduates seeking professional careers in Austria, further expanding the University’s international pathways for students.
Speaking during the mentorship session, Mrs. Maria Krieger highlighted the many advantages of learning German, including access to scholarships for higher education in Germany, international career opportunities, cultural exchange programmes, and employment with global organizations. She encouraged students to pursue fluency with confidence, noting that German language proficiency can unlock life-changing opportunities across Europe and beyond.
