The Chancellor, Mount Kenya University, Prof John Struthers on behalf of the University Council, Management Board and Senate, wishes to inform all our esteemed graduands who have qualified for conferment of degree and various University Awards, that the 29th Graduation ceremony will be held on Friday, 7th August, 2026.

All prospective graduands should note the following:

The graduation ceremony will be held on Friday, 7th August, 2026 at 9.00 a.m. at the graduation pavilion, Happy Valley grounds, along Garissa Road.

The graduation ceremony will be presided over by the University Chancellor, Prof. John Struthers, who will award Diplomas and Certificates and confer Degrees.

The list of prospective graduands who have cleared with the university will be posted on the University website. Any potential graduand whose name is not on the list should immediately notify the respective school through emails posted on the University website. Online clearance for graduation should be done through the University Management Information System on the Link https://studentportal.mku.ac.ke

Graduands should have cleared financially with the University by 3rd July, 2026 for their names to be included in the graduation booklet and certificate list.

All graduands are requested to verify their names by 3rd July, 2026. Any requests for changes in spellings and orders of names should be done within this period at the respective campus admissions office. Any request for change of name must be supported by the relevant academic document(s).

All graduands intending to participate in the ceremony will attend the rehearsal at the graduation pavilion on 6th August, 2026 at 9.00 a.m.

Graduands are expected to be in full graduation attire for both the rehearsal and graduation ceremonies. The graduation gowns will be hired from Monday, 27th July, 2026 to Wednesday, 5th August, 2026 and will be collected from the respective Deans of Schools at the Main Campus, Thika, and from the Examination Offices in respective campuses during office hours. The hired graduation gowns must be returned on or before Friday, 21st August, 2026. Any delay in returning the gown will attract a daily charge of Kshs. 500.

The 29th graduation certificates issuance dates shall be communicated during the graduation ceremony (usually within a week after graduation). The graduates shall be expected to pick the certificate in person after clearing. They should present their original identification documents (ID / Passport).

The university congratulates all the graduates who have been successfully conferred degrees and awarded diplomas and certificates during the past University graduation ceremonies. The graduates are notified that they are expected to collect their certificates within a period of one year after graduation.

Certificates not collected within the said period attract an annual storage fee of KShs. 1,200.
