
Mount Kenya University (MKU) Malindi ODeL Centre, representing the Pwani Cluster, participated in a Breast Cancer Awareness Walk held on Saturday, 3rd October 2026, in Malindi Town (Butwani). The event was hosted by Malindi Hands of Hope in partnership with the County Government of Kilifi and brought together community members, organizations, and other stakeholders united in raising awareness about breast cancer.
The awareness walk focused on the importance of breast cancer prevention, early detection, regular screening, and seeking timely medical attention. Participants used the occasion to encourage members of the community to take proactive steps towards their health and to promote greater understanding of breast cancer and the value of early intervention.
The event was graced by the Deputy Governor of Kilifi County as the Chief Guest, who emphasized the importance of creating greater awareness of breast cancer within the community. The Chief Guest encouraged participants to prioritize regular screening and early detection while highlighting the role of collective community action in addressing health challenges.
MKU Strengthens Community Engagement in Kilifi County

MKU’s participation provided an important platform for the University to strengthen its visibility and presence within Kilifi County and the Malindi community.
