Mount Kenya University strengthened its international research and innovation presence through participation in the 14th Universities, Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development in Africa (UEED) Conference 2026, held from 15–17 September 2026 at the School of Graduate Studies Auditorium, University of Cape Coast, Ghana.
The conference was held under the ART4Dev project framework and brought together academics, researchers and innovators to share knowledge, research findings and emerging solutions aimed at advancing entrepreneurship, enterprise development and innovation in Africa.
MKU was represented by a delegation from the School of Computing and Informatics, led by the Dean, Dr. John Kamau, and comprising Mr. Michael Muiruri Nyoro, Head of Department, Enterprise Computing; Ms. Wilkister Dinda, Faculty; and Ms. Margaret Wanjiku Mwinji, Faculty.
During the three-day conference, the MKU delegation actively contributed to the academic programme through the presentation of peer-reviewed research papers across the main conference sessions. The presentations provided an opportunity for the University to share its research outputs with an international audience while engaging with emerging ideas and perspectives in computing, entrepreneurship and enterprise development.
A notable highlight of MKU’s participation was the involvement of Ms. Vyonne Moseti, a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science student, who accompanied the delegation and presented a poster on “Ona,” an AI-powered assistive navigation companion designed to support visually impaired users.
The innovative project attracted considerable attention and was highly commended, highlighting the potential of artificial intelligence to address real-world challenges and promote inclusive technology. Ms. Moseti’s participation also demonstrated the University’s commitment to creating opportunities for students to translate their academic knowledge into innovative solutions with potential social impact.
The University’s participation in the UEED Conference reflects MKU’s continued commitment to research, innovation, entrepreneurship and international academic collaboration. Through platforms such as the UEED Conference, the University continues to provide its faculty and students with opportunities to disseminate research, exchange knowledge and contribute to conversations on solutions for Africa’s development.
The participation further reinforces the role of the School of Computing and Informatics in advancing research and technology-driven innovation while nurturing a culture in which students are encouraged to develop solutions to contemporary societal challenges.
